I was reading “The New Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz, in Chapter 9 “How to Avoid Activating Your Automatic Failure Mechanism” while speaking about dealing with misdirected aggression I came across this phrase “Knowledge GIVES YOU Power.”

Being that I entered the business community at a younger age I still have friends that are in college, also, while networking, I have made many friends who have been in business for years. It fascinates me mingling with those who have accomplished what I aspire to achieve, however it saddens me that I am not yet able to articulate it well enough to friends closer to my age the knowledge is NOT power.
I have heard it countless times from college students, “let me just get my degree and I will be securely making money and enjoying life.” It amuses me for a moment then it brings up much concern. College does not ever seem to educate students why they should find people who have achieved what they want and become their protégé. Instead they send students off to get an internship to make nothing and find out they don’t like the position. Where is the value of college going!?!
With all the value we put on education, and so many people spending hundreds of thousands of dollars going to a university, why is it that statistically 60%+ of people don’t ever read a book voluntarily after graduating ever again? Simple, knowledge isn’t power at all, knowledge GIVES YOU power. It is applied knowledge that can empower anyone. Knowledge is no more than your brain absorbing unorganized facts, many of which you never even use.
The power that knowledge gives is unlimited, but it is up to us to learn how to apply that knowledge in the most environmentally friendly and profitable way possible. I encourage you to define your goals as clearly as possible, and search for those who have already achieved it then model them as closely as possible.
Have a great day and let the search begin!
