It has been a little to long since the last post, but I think this video makes up for it!
Check out “The Johnny Carson Method.” For years Johnny Carson lit up late night TV, but what most people don’t look at is how he treated his show like a business. Supply and Demand, relationship building, the whole nine.
Let me know what you think!
Special thanks to my partners at TWBA, and Brian White for his awesome video skills!

(10 keys of Trust) x (7 keys of Respect) = Ultimate Rapport Formula
Part 1- 10 Key of Trust
“People like to do business with people they know, like and trust”
*Disclaimer*
This formula is not intended for an end all, be all for rapport building and connecting. The most important thing in any interaction is to always be sincere in every thing you say, do or act upon. With that said many of the ingredients in the formula below are not required to be done all at once or during a short exchange. This is meant to be an overall view of the best ways to enhance the relationship between you and the party you choose to connect with. This post relates mainly to business, but is applicable in any relationship!
10 Keys to Trust
The first factor in creating rapport is Trust. Trust is about who you are connecting with and how to connect with them!
1) Relate 1st Party/ 3rd Party
People always feel more comfortable with people they have something in common with. In order to find that common ground there are two ways to go about it. You can try the 1st party approach-where you speak for yourself or the third party approach where you say something from someone elses point of view.
1st party example:
“I love (xyz team). My favorite player is (Smith), how about yours?”
If you can not find common ground, leverage the 3rd party.
3rd party example:
“A good friend of mine is from (xyz town) and says it’s gorgeous there.”
2) Give Them a Gift (Compliment or Referral)
The power of a “sincere” compliment can go a long way. This can be done almost immediately when you meet a person or can be used to break the ice. As you find out more about what they do you can give them a quality referral thus showing them you can add more value to their life.
3) Sincerely Curious (Keep Them Talking)
The key is sincerity! You can do this by asking questions and asking for details.
The more people talk the more comfortable they feel.
4) Mirror Their Energy/ Mood
If you are normally a high energy person and you notice that you are talking to a laid back individual than SLOW DOWN. Otherwise they may feel uncomfortable and diminish any chance of a connection.
5) Share a Story
Stories allow you to connect emotionally and build on any 1st or 3rd party connections that you made earlier in the conversation or relationship.
Tell the story of that one fishing trip on the lake or the pee-wee football game you attended on Sunday.
6) Give Them Something for Free (sample, free tour/info)
People love free! Point blank! Period! The reason “free” builds trust is because it shows that you are out to provide value first, before anything else!
7) Agree with Them
Simple, yet profound! People love to be right. Simple sayings such as (“I agree”, “I can appreciate that”, or “I see what you’re saying”) go a long way in a conversation. (that is, if it’s actually true
Relate Emotionally
At times you will find that you do not have anything in common with someone (Wrong!) You always have something in common with someone.
“Have you ever been excited?”
“Really? So have I!”
“How did it feel to be excited? Yea, and what were you excited about?”
“ Was it everything you thought it was going to be?”
“Man, that’s great I remember the last time I was really excited it was when__________.”
I think you get the point!
9) Common Enemy
This often plays a big role in looking to partner with someone. As sad as it may or may not sound; the reality of the matter is people often find a stronger bond in what they hate more than in what they love. People whom would never other-wise associate have come together in histories past to fight for a cause or to rebel against a tyrant.
10) Communicate to Their Style
There is something to be said about the different communication styles visual, auditory, kinesthetic and digital. If you are unfamiliar with these styles or would like more information on how to become a more effective communicator; I would recommend “Law of Connection” by Michael J. Losier.

We often set goals, but don’t have a road map on effectively mapping them out. Use these 13 steps in your life and business and you will be suprised on how much more comfortable your business life will be. Enjoy!
1. Set Short & Long Goals –Have end dates. Know your obstacles and solutions to beat them. Be Specific. Write them done daily. Read them daily. Put them in present tense as if they are already real.
2. Have a Plan- Once you know your goals, it’s time to design a roadmap on how to make them come true. What you manage you can measure. Plan weekly and/or daily. Be Flexible to change along the way. Get as specific as knowing what you want to make and doing the math to make it happen. Do you know what you spend? How many calls per day do you have to make to make a sale? Make a daily Scorecard to follow and see your progress; remember you can manage what you measure.
3. Watch out for Time Wasters – Email is a great example. Set times to check it. A great example of using your time to your advantage: have a time saving “Waiting Bag.” The next time your waiting in line or in a doctor’s office grab your bag with items you can check off your list while you wait.
4.Take Action – You have your goals and your plan, but if you don’t take action it all means nothing. Take massive actions, otherwise someone else will. Don’t have the same goals in 2011.
5.Fail Forward – Don’t be too much of a perfectionist and never complete anything. Get your product & service out there; it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can make changes as you go.
6.Be Persistent – Never give up! 90% of the population gives up right before they reach their goals. Keep going no matter what! Why work so hard, to stop on the 1-yard line. Finish the game!
7. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone- Fear keeps us from getting out of our comfort zone. Feel the fear and do it anyway. You have to get out of your comfort zone to achieve great things.
8.Get a Mentor- Tiger Woods (probably not the best example at the time) and Michael Phelps have coaches. Why, because they help you make things happen. They offer accountability and feedback; it’s key to faster success.
9.Find Someone in your Field to follow- They know more, have made the mistakes already, and have achieved success. If you want to be successful hang out with success. Fly with the eagles.
10.Giver’s Gain- Give to others at all times. Don’t expect anything in return. It will come back to you in many ways – even when you don’t expect it.
11. Out Source – Make a list of everything that must get done in your business. Out source the things you don’t need to waste your time on and things you are not good at anyway. Why do your bookkeeping if you’re worth $40.00 an hour, when you can hire someone to do it for $10.00 – $15.00 an hour. Shouldn’t you be out making what your worth?
12. Find a Passive Income Source – When you quit a job, there is no more money. Find a business or businesses where you sell people once and continue to make money as long as they have the product or service. Donald Trump and all the successful entrepreneurs have some form of passive income. Be sure to pick one you are passionate about and know people can benefit from over time. There is nothing wrong with friends and family making a small percentage off of your purchase, would you rather give it to the big companies or people you know?
13. Keep Healthy – None of this will matter if you don’t take care of yourself. You must do things to keep your business growing, as you must keep a healthy body to keep YOU going.
You must change your ways to change your life! Good Luck in 2010; make it your best year!

“Life is not about being liked, It is about being effective” –Joel Bauer
In today’s market we must either adapt or die, both in life and in business. The definition of insanity has changed! No longer is it an incorrect expectation to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result, in fact you can count on something new happening. Can you guess what it is?
You now have the ability to lose money for doing the same things over and over that used to make you money. If you choose not to evolve with the times your business will be left behind.

We are living witnesses to the most amazing advances in business ever. Our marketing cost can be drastically reduced and we can reach far more people than ever before in a fraction of the time. This is new and uncomfortable for most of you to comprehend, but age and excuses make no difference it is happening with or without you.
What matters now is what are you going to change in 2010? What changes are you going to make in your marketing plan to reach higher levels of success? What changes in your schedule will you make to allow time for personal development and continuous education?
Change is eminent!
The resources are all at your finger tips. Look up people like: Brian Tracy, Joel Bauer, Jim Rohn, Social Media Examiner, Mari Smith, and so many more. There is an abundance of FREE and extremely valuable information available to you.
Make excuses a thing of the past. Embrace the changes in your field. Get out there and make today your most successful day ever!

Where has this sense of entitlement come from that has spread like a plague? Since when are employers, educational systems, or governments responsible for individual financial well being? What happened to personal financial education, personal development, and self motivation to make the most of our own life?
Our lives represent the cumulative amount all the decisions we have ever made. Once you know and understand that you will have the ability to decide whether to participate in the recession or choose not to accept it.
The largest fortunes are created during a economic slump. This is the time of opportunity. Just the other week the DOW rebounded back 53% from its low in March. So over 5 months time there was 53% increase! You can view this one of two ways,
1) There were significant losses, and we are only back to the numbers of 1999. We still have 47% left to go to get back to where we were so we can break even.
OR
2) Wow what any opportunity there was in March, maybe we should have made the attempt to learn about trends and how to capitalize on them so we can identify an opportunity like this in the future.
There were still investors out there who at the time lost money, but were intelligent enough to know that market would rebound and chose invest significantly more money than ever before. Now they have come out on top.
It is all perception.
We are entitled to nothing. We live in the greatest country in the world, we have our freedom to choose. There are no other resources we can ask for that gives us the ability to create success. It is up to us to create our dreams. The resources are available, we have the internet, and libraries which have more resources than we could possibly go through in one lifetime.
USE THEM! Self educate yourself and lets build some long lasting wealth together!

Ok since we already have heard how you do anything is how you do everything, how can we make everything we do as simple as possible?
The only answer is systems. We must first master the mundane in order to create efficient systems that we can utilize. Success does not come from doing a bunch of complicated things and repeatedly changing your daily action plan to conquer new obstacles.
Success is a calculated study of the obvious. It is those who have mastered the simple things and repeated them over and over and over again that build a long lasting legacy. Those who adopted the Slight Edge principals and made the conscious decision to be true to themselves and examine what works for them.
Everyone in every business has very basic duties, in sales it is talk to more people and understand your product and the tools that will sell your product for you. In all areas of life there are rules which are simple, basic principals or guidelines that are universal. You want to become healthy, eat good foods and exercise regularly. That is not complicated at all, but millions upon millions of people can’t even handle that!
I challenge you to examine just one area of your life this week and break it down into its most simple form. Find out exactly what needs to happen in order for you to achieve the results you desire. It is the little things compounded over time that make us who we are.
Whether you like it or not only you are responsible for your misfortune or successes, obesity or health, loneliness or love, confusion or clarity. YOU! You are the only thing standing in the way.
Change your mind, change your life. Go make it happen!

What planning committee is out there putting together a business idea or marketing plan designed specifically with your best interest in mind? Nobody that’s who!
With all of the new and up and coming opportunities out there don’t just jump in to something that sounds good, do your do diligence, evaluate the opportunity, and make sure it will create a long term income that you can put some faith in. Second, make sure you are passionate about what you are doing. If you are going to begin selling or promoting a business you know you probably wouldn’t use yourself or only use once and be done with it what value do you think others will perceive?
The name of the game is longevity; long term, passive streams of income. Opening a new business or starting something where you are working from home needs to revolve around a system, and not a new system you have created. You want your new endeavor to become a long term asset that will continue to pay you into the future, and also potentially become a marketable business to sell. If you build it correctly you will be able to sell it for a profit, but more importantly you can arrange yourself a percentage of royalties.
The point is plug into a system already in place so that you are more capable of gauging your potential success. A company that can show you a track record, and a proven system of success that if you do X, X number of times here is what we have found out through repetition what is and is not effective.
