It has been a little to long since the last post, but I think this video makes up for it! :-)

Check out “The Johnny Carson Method.” For years Johnny Carson lit up late night TV, but what most people don’t look at is how he treated his show like a business. Supply and Demand, relationship building, the whole nine.

Let me know what you think!

Special thanks to my partners at TWBA, and Brian White for his awesome video skills!

  1. I have seen your link on a couple of blogs and have been meaning to get over here and see that the Johnny Carson Method was all about. What a great video clip. Johnny Carson had a polished integrity that he brought to comedy and never backed down on what the show was about. Thanks so much for sharing this. I really enjoyed the video.

  2. Wow, really enjoyed the video.

Johnny Carson was something else and yes that is why it took 5 people and counting to fill his shoes.

Some people are just naturals and can never be replaced.

    Thanks for the video!

    Have a great day,
    Tommy D.

  3. Thank you for creating such a fun post! I enjoyed the Johnny Cash video immensely! I never realized what I missed! Wow! 30 years! And what a wonderful method of success he has given us to follow!

  5. I don't know how you found this video, Joe, but than you so much for sharing it. I remember enjoying the Johnny Carson show, but never realized why he was such a huge success. It's fantastic to realize that the formula is so simple anyone can follow it!

  8. This is great stuff. I grew up with Johnny and this brings back great memories. The comparison to business is brilliant. I love the last one his passion. That's what it's all about.

  9. Joe,
Thanks for sharing such a great tribute to Johnny Carson. As the video highlighted, Johnny had a great head for business and did it so very well for 30 years. His skill of creating more demand than supply is key to every business and we should all learn from him. To know what you want and not wavering from it like Johnny is vital to success as well.
What a perfect video and message to share with everyone who is on their way to great success!

  13. Hi Joe,

I think I may have watched Johnny many years ago when I was younger and watching the video above bought back a few memories. I'm over in the UK so I'm not sure how I saw it. Wonder if it was on over here also?

  14. Thank you for sharing this. I grew up with Johnny and it was an integral part of all of our lives. He certainly will never be replaced. He drew us all together in a way that is sorely needed now. And we certainly can still learn from him. Brought a tear to my eye.

  15. We have found it to be a real tear jerker. Thanks for sharing, glad you enjoyed it!

  16. Lol, I am nowhere close to old enough to know about that. I merely heard about him often, have seen some clips, and then my partners made this.

Hope all is well. Thanks for commenting!

  17. Great video, Joe! A beautiful tribute to Johnny Carson ~ the parallels of his success to anyone's success are right on. Especially finding something you're passionate about and not settling! So critical to ultimate freedom & fulfillment.

On a side note, I'll have to go check out your WBA community ~ I was part of a mastermind several years back and in part of our mission said, “We are a community that thrives on passion & excellence!” Word for word! I think we need to connect further. :)

Thanks for sharing his very inspiring post!

  18. I used to watch Johnny all the time, he was hilarious! This was a good video to watch and to remember the value he brought to his shows… thanks for the great message!

  20. Beth,

  21. Awesome video Joe! Thanks for sharing. Johnny Carson was definitely “The Tonight Show” and others have come and gone but I just don’t think those shoes can ever be filled. He brought something that just can’t be replaced and watching this brought back so many memories.

The points are so right on about business – exactly what it’s all about. Thanks, Laura

  22. Johnny Carson was funny! He was the best out there!

  23. Great tribute to a great entertainer. I saw his last show, his first show. As well as Jack Paars last and Steve Allens last. You might say I’m a Late nite show freak. Good post and video bring back fond memories.

  24. That was really powerful. Thanks so much for bringing us such a profound message via such an amazing messenger! I grew up with Johnny as did many of the other people commenting. Watching this was like going home.

  25. A classic! There will never be another one like Johnny!

  26. Oh, what a class act he was! He really did set the standard, and I thank you (along with TWBA) for providing this glimpse of Johnny from a slightly different angle. I was especially struck by the closing quote of Johnny’s about passion and liking what you do. Man, if you don’t like what you do, you better change quick, or you’ll be a very unhappy camper the rest of your life! If you do like what you do, stick with it, not matter what it is or how much (or little) it pays. There’s nothing more important in life that joy! Having that is true success!

  27. I grew up with him, and I will never forget. We were drawn together as a nation through his show, his bits, characters, and his humor. And I do agree that his one pointed vision and focus is a powerful lesson for us all. Thank you for a heartwarming trip through some fond memories.

  29. Hi Joe,

Thank you so much for sharing this…Johnny Carson is someone I always admired & looked forward to watching the Tonight Show (meaning, stopped watching late night shows after he retired). It was wonderful to watch the video, and the video was put together so fantastically BTW! The quote at the end, from Johnny, is very similar to the tag line I have chosen for myself & my blog, “Doing what you like is freedom… Liking what you do is happiness”, and Johnny Carson knew that & lived his life that way…what an example of someone to aspire to be like :-)
