Business Social Networking Doggies

You must read on to understand why dogs are dressed in dice costumes...

That’s right! I figured out a way to combine two of the most popular online activities into a useful and enlightening post to help grow your business through social networking.

Let’s face it the internet and social media is where it is today partially because of all the porn sites that were some of the first sites making billions online back in the day.

Now let’s get to the topic of how the hell this relates to your business and your social networking.

I think it is pretty hard to argue with the fact that LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and social networking in general have become the technology de joure of the past few years, and will remain that way for the next few as well. Ten or even twelve years ago it was like “Wow! This internet thing is awesome I need to get myself a website.” Then everyone and their mother went and spent whatever it cost to get a website to highlight their business.

Now websites are more important and less expensive than ever, but if someone asks you, “Are you on Facebook?” and you say “No,” the only thing most of us can say to ourselves is “Seriously?”

Yes, for the most part every business that is planning on actually growing into next year is jumping on the social media band wagon, and rightly so. “Bandwagon Marketing,” is what I have termed this wave of businesses utilizing social networking for their marketing efforts. Why? Because everyone and EVEN MY MOTHER is all over it!

Back to the point of the post, how and why you must stop masturbating with your business social networking. Just because you have 50 social networking profiles set up and you got yourself a blog doesn’t mean it is time to sit back and watch the sales roll in or that it is time to alert the world to every product, service, special offer, coffee break, or bowel movement someone in your company has.

The purpose of business social networking isn’t to pleasure yourself, it is to make more money and grow your business.

6 quick tips:

1. Posts and status updates must provide a pleasurable experience of some kind for the audience whether educational, inspirational, or entertaining. “I just had the best cup of coffee ever!” does not cut it!

2. Learn how to optimize your profiles and websites with information your readers can relate to, that is useful, and has a call to action.

3. If you are getting a few hits to your website and either aren’t tracking things accurately or are just not converting anyone this is NOT the time to invest in SEO to get more traffic. Sharpen up the site, do some testing, make some sales, then work on getting more people to the site.

4. Spend your time wisely online. Set up your action plan and stick to it. You are running a business it is time to treat it like one.

5. Don’t post the same thing 15 times 15 different ways throughout the day. If people didn’t take advantage of your first crappy offer posting the same offer phased differently every 15 minutes for the rest of the day isn’t going to be any more effective.

6. Be unique. Just because you jumped on the bandwagon doesn’t mean you can’t throw some fuzzy dice on the rear view to make yourself a more noticeable. Do your best NOT to be like everyone else. Those who stand out make the most money.

Thanks so much for reading! Stay tuned as we are going to be getting into some of the “how to” behind the strategy and highlight some great case studies over the next few weeks.

Please share with our fellow readers the best internet marketing tip you have ever received, and how it helped you grow, monetize, or benefit your business.

Have an awesome day!

  1. Love it Joe! Great tips and the title, well that’s just priceless LOL

  2. Hey Joe,
That’s some title for this article! LOL! So what do you think the next big wave will be after social networking? You made a very good point about staying focused on your biz – it’s so easy to get distracted! God article and lots of great info here!

  3. Joe
Interesting way to get noticed with a heading like that!!! Tips however were good. I don’t use my social networks any way effectively. I still have a little trouble getting past them being just a social waste of time but I am working on changing that mindset.

  4. Lol, it was inspired by a colleague of mine writing something similar about money. If you would like some ideas and tips that could help you out please let me know. It is always fun to chat with like minded people about their projects.

This title by the way has oversold me on the importance of a great headline, traffic went through the roof! Thanks for sharing.

  5. Hey Joe,

You are now the proud owner of the title “Ballsiest Blog Post”…you are definitely my new Internet Hero. A buddy of mine posted “people I have slept with” as a title on his and I thought he was cool…but you took shock to a whole new level my friend. Maybe for the next one you can focus your article a little and just call is Stop Masturbating on Facebook…lol. Keep it up and drop me a line if you have some time – we can connect on skype. Cheers brother! Don’t ever let anyone tell you to take that down.

  6. Tip four is so important, make an action plan and take action. Once you set yourself a plan and have it written down, success will come if you do the work!

  7. Plan, Do, Review that is the key! Thanks for sharing Mike.

  8. Thanks Joel!

This was fun. It was a great testament to how incredible a headline can be. I thought of going the direct route and calling out a specific network, but I thought the point would come across just as well with this.

I was initially thinking “Stop Masturbating to Social Media” but that may have been a little to much. Lol

  9. That is a great question Lesly. Without a doubt there will be a big push in mobile marketing, but not in the text message fashion. Apps I think will be a big deal, but it will still all play a part in social networking.

I think traditional advertising will continue to get pushed out because of the lower ROI. Word of mouth, third party recommendations is what sells. It is all going to have to to full swing back around to advertising’s simplest form, before radio, tv, and computers. People telling people what works.

It is going to be really cool to see! Thanks for the comment!

  10. A company could reach milions of potential customers but the company has to work to tell everyone about the new products, etc. I agree with you, it is a starting point only, I know because I do it. This is a very good post with nice trips, thank you. Keep up the good work.

  11. Hey Joe,

Haha, well just like everyone else your headline definitely made me click through to read it 🙂 Well done for that!!

Tracking and conversions. Your post made me realise that I need to make more effort in that direction, so thanks for giving me a wake up call!

    Great post Joe

    Sue

  12. Thanks Sue! Traffic and page views are great but when we aren’t converting anyone who really cares?

    Have a awesome day!

  13. Hey Joe, thanks for the heads up. I’m glad I could “inspire” such an “intriguing” post title lol. I have to say when I posted Money Masturbation Mindset it didn’t come without a price. (As did my post around The U.N.P.H.U.C.K.E.D. Formula.) Sometimes certain audience members don’t appreciate it, regardless of the quality of the content.

But alas I can’t say I’m too worried about being everything to everybody these days. Love me or leave me, as long as I say what’s on my heart and mind I’m not sweating it.

Come to think of it, all of the blog post titles that were pretty much on the line (or over it), brought in lots of traffic and comments because the content overshadowed the title.

We just have to make sure our content overshadows the post title if it’s pushing the boundaries. Great work man.

  14. Joe,
This is aweful! I thought I was making a splash with: http://lindagraceonline.com/lets-get-naked-my-take-on-transparency-online/ your’s is over the edge!
I have to agree the increased traffic is great, but as fun as it is, it’s a bummer when the conversions aren’t happening!
    Linda
ps. this post has a lot of great information!

  15. Hi Joe in Tampa, this is Debbie in Sarasota. I couldn’t agree with you more. People are acting like clones and not offering anything new. It’s so important to be unique. Like fuzzy dog dice. So cute.

  16. Hi Joe,

wow, your title is out there! LoL

    Love the picture.

Thank you for your tips. I am learning and getting reminded to put what I am learning into practice.
The one bit at a time to eat the elephant comes to mind. My elephant seems to be big, but it is getting tastier all the time.
    Have a great week.
    Yorinda

  17. Great analogy! Those elephants get better everyday, as long as we keep eating. Fortunately I am always hungry, it is when we start one one elephant then go to another and another and never finish our meal that we get lost.

    Thanks for sharing! Yorinda!!

  18. Thanks Debbie in Sarasota!

I think that finding a new way to put a spin on ideas is the toughest thing sometimes. Most people are so inundated by the “How To” they don’t start to think about the “why are we doing this” kind of question.

Glad you enjoyed the dice! :-p

  19. Lol I like your title as well Linda!

This post has opened my eyes to the “crossing the line” kind of title. Traffic yes has blown up, but it is funny to see some people bypass this post and comment on an older on. But you know what, it fits peoples sense of humor like you and I and that is who we need to cater to. Be your self and let others love you or hate you.

Thanks so much for sharing, I very much enjoy your site as well. Have a wonderful day!

    Joe

  20. Yes indeed. I saw how you addressed offending people in some other post on there as well and it made me think about the repercussions for just a moment, but then I thought this is funny to me damn it so it is going up! Lol

You hit the nail on the head with the content overshadowing the title, I hope the reader of this felt that it did. Every time I read it I cant help but laugh and feel it is content that at least I would appreciate if I read it.

It has inspired me to dig deeper into each title, obviously not pushing the line each and every time, but we got to keep people on their toes out here! lol

Thanks so much for all you have helped me with. Have an awesome day!!

    Joe

  21. OMG, I thought I was going to pee myself I laughed so had at the title of this post. Awesome way to stand out 😉

But what really got me was your tip #3. SEO and traffic is a low priority when the traffic people are already getting isn’t converting. That one tip alone is enough to fill an entire blog post.

    ~S~

  22. Great Post on How to use social Media in your business. That was sure a creative title that caught my eyes and probably many others.

  23. Thanks Ted, glad you enjoyed it!

  24. Joe,
Great post and certainly a catchy headline. The point you make that I resonate with the most is the one about mastering CONVERSION before going out and getting more traffic. Too often we are training our readers to accumulate free information and not training them to be buying our services and products. I’ve certainly been challenged in this area and am focusing more attention and effort towards conversion.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Adam

  25. I am glad you enjoyed the post Adam! Conversions are what our sites must really focus on once the traffic is there and while it builds.

Thanks again for stopping by. Have a great day!

  26. Joe, what a great post. Two things that really stuck, 1. spend your time wisely and set a plan. I’m reading a book right now on procrastination that talks a lot about setting up a game plan and sticking to it. You have to, it’s just too easy to get lost on the Internet and have five hours pass and not have anything done. Also, No. 2 is to be unique. Don’t rehash everything you’ve already said. It get old.

Thanks for the great post and the great information. Congrats on being a top syndicator too!

  27. Thanks for sharing your insights Debbie! Procrastination and lack or originality are two of the biggest time wasters out there. We a can set up what we think to be a great plan, procrastinate getting it started, then find learn nobody cares because 20 million other people said the same thing. On top of that we procrastinate making the necessary changes to make everything work.

I appreciate your ideas and feed back. Have a great day!

  28. Joe,you did a great job here! I am impressed with the facts you’re sharing its because these are the information that most of the web users forget about. I really like this statement “Be unique. Just because you jumped on the bandwagon doesn’t mean you can’t throw some fuzzy dice on the rear view to make yourself a more noticeable. Do your best NOT to be like everyone else. Those who stand out make the most money.” Being distinctive online is pretty tough to do but if your contemplating and open to new ideas, I am sure you will be noticed. 🙂

  29. I love it when people like you are willing to push the limit as to what is exceptable, slap people in the face, and whip some knowledge at them. I enjoyed the title…then I read the post and enjoyed it even more. You know what you are talking about and you thought it out and structured it so very well.
You have me as new subscriber Joe. I await your next masterpiece!

  30. Thanks Blaine!

It was a blast to write. I had fun throwing people off and giving them something to think about.

Glad to have you on board!! Have an awesome day!!

  34. Have you watch the movie Middle Man? The story shows how internet starts with the rise of pornographic sites. The movies story can actually be partially connected to this article.
